What happens if an employee submits documents after the coverage has already been cancelled?

Answer:

If an employee verifies the eligibility of a removed dependent after coverage has been cancelled, the carrier and plan document determine re-instatement rules. Dependents can typically be reinstated up to 60 days from the drop date of coverage and the verified dependent would be reinstated back to the termination date. Beyond that time frame they will need a qualifying life event or wait for the next Open Enrollment, and even then they must still verify the eligibility of any dependent to be enrolled onto benefit plans.
